Brown University and Rhode Island School of Design 257 THAYER OPENS IN RHODE ISLAND Providence, R.I. — 257 Thayer, the frst purpose-built student housing community in Providence, located near Brown University and Rhode Island School of Design (RISD), has opened. The 267-bed community, developed by Gilbane Develop- ment Co., includes 95 suite-style apartments with one-, two- and three-bedroom units on four lev- els. On-site community amenities include a clubhouse room with multiple high defnition TVs, a pool table, a community café, com- puters and high-speed printer, group study rooms, ftness center, extensive bike storage, high-speed internet and Wi-Fi, and 24-hour resident services. The landscaped courtyard features a fre pit and barbeque grill. 257 Thayer also fea- tures all-inclusive, individual, by- the-bed, leasing. Apartment ame- nities include fully furnished units, private bedrooms with full private bathrooms, hardwood-style foors, and full kitchens with granite countertops. Each apartment is equipped with stainless appli- ances, including refrigerators with icemaker, microwave, and full-size washer and dryer. The four-story community, located in the College Hill area, includes retail space on Thayer Street's frontage and an un- derground, heated parking garage with 78 spaces. Located within walking distance from the cen- ter of Brown University and half a mile from RISD's campus, 257 Thayer is convenient for students at both campuses. 257 Thayer was designed as a LEED Silver project and features a sustainable manage- ment plan. Sustainable features in- clude building products required to meet stringent low VOC and low emissions guidelines; utiliza- tion of high efciency mechanical systems; electric car charging sta- tions and bike storage provided free of charge; high-efciency me- chanical systems; and solar power providing up to 12 percent of the building's power. The project also features original works of art, in- cluding Raf, a bronze sculpture of WE ARE REDEFINING THE COLLEGE LIVING EXPERIENCE.
