CAMPUS UPDATE JULY/AUGUST 2015 STUDENT HOUSING BUSINESS .COM 22 University of Toledo EDGE 1120 TO OPEN FOR 2015-2016 Toledo, Ohio — Edge 1120, a 208- unit student housing commu- nity, will open near the Univer- sity of Toledo in mid-August. The community features group study areas, private study nooks, study lounges, a 24-hour business center, a conference room for group projects and a computer area with both PC and Mac computers. Other ameni- ties include the community's custom group ftness classroom with Fitness on Demand, heated pool, outdoor volleyball court and ftness area. An adjacent greenway will take residents to campus and be paved for walk- ing, biking and rollerblading. Edge 1120 ofers foor plans that range from one-bedroom units all the way up to four-bedroom, 4.5 bathroom townhomes. Units are fully furnished and include complimentary cable with pre- mium channel listings, wood- style fooring, granite counter- tops and a washer/dryer in each apartment home. Edge 1120 will ofer housing to more than 590 students. The NRP Group is the developer and the construction team behind Edge 1120 while Asset Campus Housing man- ages the property. University of Indianapolis NEW $25 MILLION STUDENT HOUSING BUILDING UNDERWAY Indianapolis — The University of Indianapolis has broken ground on a four-story, 480-occupant apartment building designed to expand housing options for stu- dents. The Greyhound Village, named in a student contest, will feature 196 furnished units with one to four bedrooms, private baths, kitchens, living areas, and washers and dryers. The indoor and outdoor common spaces will include a deck overlooking a pond. Work will begin with the demolition of the 1950s-era apartments currently occupying the site, and construction will be completed in summer 2016, al- lowing students to move in for that fall semester. A joint venture with developer Strategic Capital Partners, the estimated $25 mil- lion project is part of UIndy's plan to improve the campus ex- perience while also elevating the quality of life in the surrounding University Heights neighbor- hood. Greyhound Village was designed by architects Schmidt Associates. Construction will be overseen by general contractor CRG Residential. University of California, Berkeley EDR TO BEGIN RENOVATION OF BOWLES HALL Berkeley, Calif. — EdR will soon begin construction on the re- development of Bowles Hall, a historic residential facility serv- ing the University of California, Berkeley. The Bowles Hall Foun- dation (BHF) is funding the $39.5 million project primarily through tax-exempt revenue bonds un- derwritten by Raymond James Financial and a capital campaign led by Bowles Hall alumni and foundation members. The Uni- versity of California Board of Regents approved the BHF's pro- posal in March 2014 to renovate, refurnish and reestablish Bowles Hall as a residential college. With the signing of a ground lease with the University of California, Berkeley, the Bowles Hall Foun- dation will become the owner and independent operator of Bowles Hall for 45 years. EdR was selected by BHF last year to execute all the aspects of this ren- ovation, including the design and construction processes, which will be led by PYATOK Architec- ture + Urban Design and Clark Construction Group, respective- ly. Construction will begin this month. EdR will provide prop- erty management services to the community upon its completion in summer 2016. Bowles Hall was built in 1929 as the nation's frst residential college, is on the Na- tional Register of Historic Places and is a City of Berkeley land- mark. The neo-gothic style build- ing is located against the hills on the northeast side of campus. The exterior will be repaired and maintained according to historic preservation requirements. The interior will be renovated to its original design, preserving many of its unique features, and will also be modernized to accommo- date the information technology and lifestyle needs of today's stu- dents. Bowles Hall will be a mix of single and double suite-style units for a total of 192 beds that will house students, graduate student mentors, and a house- master and a dean, both univer- sity professors. Amenities will include a dining hall, residential college library and a game room. Edge 1120 in Toledo, Ohio, offers foor plans that range from one-bedroom units all the way up to four-bedroom, 4.5 bathroom townhomes.
