THE SHB INTERVIE W January/February 2017 StudentHousingBusiness.com 30 SHB: You mentioned earlier that your management division is a also focus for 2017. What are your plans for that division in 2017? Blais: 2016 marked a year of retooling for the management company. Through the acquisi- tion in late 2015, we had to spend considerable time on-boarding the assets and personnel. We also spent a lot of time reviewing and rewriting many of the policies and procedures for that company to make ourselves more efficient and beneficial to our owners. Starting in 2017, we have made tremen- dous strides in automating our processes and making it much easier for our residents and their parents to lease online, and for our property staffs to operate more efficiently. Property man- agement is clearly a people busi- ness. We have really invested in our property teams through train- ing and driving our culture to and through those teams to our resi- dents. Our primary goal, above growing the company, is to reach our residents daily and exude our culture to them of Love, Serve, Care. We are fiercely committed to creating safe and respectful envi- ronments for our residents. We empower our property teams to do what it takes to make a posi- tive impact in the daily lives of our residents. While we certain- ly intend to grow the number of beds we manage in 2017, we also intend to grow the impact our cul- ture at RISE is having on current and future residents. SHB: RISE has been an on-campus developer for over 20 years. What are some of the current trends you see on campuses? Blais: On-campus development is continually evolving. As new generations of students enter col- lege age, they bring with them new ideas, demands and interests. As developers we are responsi- ble for reacting to those changes with the forethought of provid- ing amenities, unit configurations and communal environments that RISE is working in partnership with Louisiana State University to develop three phases of student housing. The first phase, with 1,930 beds and 50,000 square feet of retail, is under development in Baton Rouge.
