I've been with UCI for seven years. SHB: What are some of the proj- ects you've overseen at Mesa Court? What is planned for the future? Guesman: Over the past four years, we have renovated 15 of the residence halls in Mesa Court. Across campus, our graduate and family housing community opened a new facil- ity here in the last three years. Student housing administra- tion continues to evaluate UCI's need for housing, with an eye toward keeping up with enroll- ment. That was one of the driv- ers for our new expansion. A number of our incoming fresh- men were living outside our two freshmen communities. We want to be able to house all the incoming freshmen want- ing housing. Going forward, we want to follow our strategic plan of being able to house more of our students, so more expan- sion will take place. SHB: Do you work with off- campus providers to help stu- dents fnd alternate housing? Guesman: Housing administra- tive services offers information and advising for students for off-campus housing. They have created the Anteater Housing Network, which provides hous- ing and roommate listings for UCI students. They can post on the Anteater Housing Network message boards at no cost. That also provides easy access to off-campus housing listings for students, parents, faculty and staff. It is a great place for area property owners and managers to reach UCI students. We also have a close relationship with the Irvine Company's apart- ment communities across the street. There's also a long tra- dition here at UCI among our students to rent winter rentals in Newport Beach, which is close by. SHB VIE W FROM THE ACADEME MARCH/APRIL 2015 82
