TOP DEVELOPERS March/April 2018 StudentHousingBusiness.com 84 The Most Active Developers in Student Housing A survey of industry developers reveals more than 181,000 beds planned for delivery between now and the fall of 2021. Research and article by Katie Sloan E Each year, Student Housing Business endeavors to determine the industry's development pipeline for the next four years by requesting projected numbers from leading student housing developers. From this information, we are able to see which companies are most active in the sector, and gauge overall development activity. This year's survey resulted in a net of more than 181,000 beds being developed by SHB's top 25 ranked developers through fall 2021. In its recent 2017 Year-End Report, FourPoint Investments projected that 93 properties totaling more than 44,000 beds will be delivering in fall 2018. Of those, 25 projects are located in the Southeast; 23 are located in the Midwest; 18 are located in the Southwest; 10 are located in the Northeast; 10 are located in the Mountain States region; and seven are located in the Pacific Coast region. At the top of SHB's four year outlook as the most active developer is Athens, Georgia-based Landmark Properties. The company has a pipeline of 32 projects totaling 21,792 beds to be delivered through fall 2021. Included among these is The Stan- dard at Atlanta, delivering in fall 2018 near the Georgia Institute of Technology; and The Standard at Berkeley, delivering in fall 2020 near the University of California, Berkeley campus. Coming in at number 2 is Austin, Texas-based American Campus Communities, which has a pipeline consisting of 19 projects with a total of 14,213 beds. Active both on- and off- campus, the company's development pipeline includes the Northern Arizona Honors College in Flagstaff; a residence hall at Northeastern University in Boston; a 550-bed Living/Learn- ing community at the University of Illinois at Chicago; and a 648-bed residence hall at Butler University in Indianapolis. Ranking third on our survey is Lafayette, Indiana-based Trinitas. The company has 18 properties set for delivery through 2021 at a total of 13,800 beds. The company's pipeline includes a mixed-use student housing development located near the Uni- versity of Cincinnati's main campus, set for delivery in fall 2019. SHB's fourth most active developer is Chicago-based CA Stu- dent Living. The company has 27 projects in its development pipeline totaling 13,441 beds. Included among these is Evolve Bloomington, a 751-bed mixed-use development located across from Indiana University's Memorial Stadium in Bloomington. The property is being developed in a joint venture with Regency Consolidated Residential, and is set for delivery this summer. Ranking fifth is Austin, Texas-based Core Spaces, which has 27 projects planned or underway totaling 13,138 beds.
