"We also provide referrals to businesses in town that will aid in getting them acclimated to our campuses." Hrabe says that another impor- tant amenity for their internation- al students is roommate match- ing. "We understand that we're not only introducing students to a new school, but to an entirely new culture, so along with room- mate matching, we offer a variety of ways for them to get involved," she says. "Our U Life residence life program [an engagement and outreach program] is offered to all residents, however we fnd that it is our international students who fully embrace it and take advan- tage of all it has to offer." According to Ryan Benefel, vice president of marketing with Ambling Management Co., expec- tations among international stu- dents can vary depending on the student's home country. For instance, Benefel says, Europeans and Asians have different expecta- tions. German students are often comfortable in a cohabitation environment off-campus man- aged by local landlords, whereas South Koreans expect more size and are comfortable paying more for their living experience. Globally, South Korea has the highest percentage of individual users on the Internet, Benefel says, so when students from there come to the United States, they expect fast bandwidth. To them, he says, swimming pools and gyms are just icing on the cake.
