FROM THE PUBLISHER MARCH/APRIL 2015 STUDENT HOUSING BUSINESS .COM 4 One of the cool things about publishing an industry magazine and organizing a major industry conference is that we get to talk to a lot of people and get a lot of different views and thoughts about the state of the student housing space. We just fnished putting together the issue you hold in your hands — our largest ever — and are sitting in on InterFace Student Housing panel conference calls. What we are seeing and hearing is very positive. Our Top Developers survey on p. 48 shows more than 95,000 beds planned for the industry over the next few years — proof that the industry is growing. New capital sources, both institutional and overseas, are now coming into the space — not kicking tires, but committing dollars. New development is getting closer to cam- puses, not further away. Leasing and rent numbers are solid and showing growth in most markets; operations and management continue to get more sophisticated by the day; and we even have the excitement of a corporate takeover battle being played out. All of these are signs that our industry is not just growing, but maturing. We are privileged to chronicle all this and appreciate your support and loyalty. We look forward to seeing many of you in Austin April 8-10 for InterFace Student Housing. We are also pleased to announce the dates of October 21-23 for the 3rd annual InterFace On-Campus Housing conference in the fall in Tempe, Arizona.
