CAMPUS UPDATE January/February 2017 22 The University of the Bahamas UNIVERSITY OF THE BAHAMAS, PROVIDENCE ADVISORS TO DEVELOP 1,000-BED RESIDENCE HALL Nassau, Bahamas — A public/private partnership between the University of the Bahamas and Providence Advisors Limited is set to develop a 1,000-bed residence hall at the university's Oakes Field campus in Nassau. The project is scheduled for delivery in 2019, and will include a food court, fitness facility, theater, retail space, classrooms, a parking deck and individual and group study rooms. Asset Campus International will manage the property in partnership with the university. The University of Texas at Austin CONSTRUCTION CONTINUES ON ASPEN HEIGHTS, GRAND CHINA FUND STUDENT HOUSING HIGH RISE IN AUSTIN Austin, Texas — Construction is underway on Aspen West Campus, a 464-bed student housing high-rise located near the University of Texas at Austin. The 17-story development by Aspen Heights Partners and Grand China Fund will offer 166 units in a range of floor plans featuring up to five bedrooms. Community amenities will include a sixth floor terrace with a fitness center, game lounge, study lounge and pool area with grills overlooking campus. Completion is expected for fall 2018. The University of California, San Diego HENSEL PHELPS, MITHUN AWARDED PHASE II OF GRADUATE STUDENT HOUSING PROJECT San Diego, Calif. — The University of California, San Diego has awarded Phase II of its East Campus graduate student housing project to a partnership between contracting firm Hensel Phelps and design firm Mithun. Phase II, to be named Nuevo West, will consist of two buildings totaling 442,000 square feet. The $142 million development will offer 880 beds, 1,350 parking stalls, outdoor gathering space, a market, café and social amenity space. Eighty of the beds at Nuevo West will be reserved for families and patients undergoing medical treatments at the adjacent UCSD medical center. Phase II will be located adjacent to the first phase of the project, Mesa Nueva, a $208.6 million development consisting of 1,355 beds for graduate and professional students. Phase I of the project is under construction now, with an anticipated opening in 2017. Phase II is expected for completion in 2019.
